Editorial Review:

Product DescriptionWould you read over 500 book reviews a month? The staff at Bookmarks do, and we distill the results into each issue of the magazine. Our readers enjoy summaries of hundreds of opinions from every major newspaper and magazine for a comprehensive look at the latest fiction, nonfiction, and children's books.

We look at classic books as well. Our 'Book by Book' author profiles focus on the major works of extraordinary writers, from Charles Dickens and Mark Twain to Franz Kafka and Virginia Woolf. Bookmarks also covers genres from the best American biographies to great mystery series, and we consult a new team of experts for each issue to recommend the best books on a specific nonfiction subject: consciousness, games, ancient Greece, magic, travel, true crime--you name it.

Since the best books often become known by word of mouth, Bookmarks publishes unique lists of our subscribers' favorites--they uncover terrific, little-known gems. Each issue also features a profile of a different book club discussing the books its members loved...and the ones that caused the most awkward silences.

Bookmarks is a colorful, smart, decidedly unstuffy guide to the best in new and classic books.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My favorite resource for English book reviews!
I run an English bookshop in Germany and I subscribed the magazine about two years ago. And I can tell you: It is my best resource for English book reviews!
I am able to get a glimpse of the new books and so far, every book that I selected and purchased because of a recommendation in this magazine turned out the be a huge hit in my shop! Moreover, they have a really nice customer service - which is very important if you are sitting in another country and issues vanish somewhere over the Atlantic. So go ahead and subscribe it - it is really worth it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great magazine! Essential book guide!
I haven't read the whole magazine cover to cover yet but I have already made up a list of books I want to read. There's something for everyone in this magazine. You will find new authors, even new genres that will interest you.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful
I have had a subscription to this magazine for a couple of years now and find it invaluable in choosing what to read. It gives such a broad view of books the I get a feeling for them without wasting my time on something won't get past page 50. Even more valuable as our local paper on reviews about 2 books a week on Sunday and it is usually a reprint from a seperate paper in a bigger city. With the monumental mis-managment at Pages magazine and it's folding this has become the it magazine for readers.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Customer service is terrible!- updated!!!
I've been subscribed to this magazine since last October and enjoyed reading it until I had to move 2 months ago. That is when the whole story began. First I tried to call them it order to update my mailing address at the phone they provide on their website - no luck. Then I tried to contact them thru email (address on the site) - no luck. After the third email I gave up. Nobody ever bothered to answer my emails. The only thing that i didn't try was mailing them by regular mail. So by now I'm missing at least 1 issue(i think 2 as a matter of fact) which is not how I imagine it would be when I subscribed. So enjoy the magazine;just make sure you dont' have to contact them with any kind of problem because there is nobody to help you. One of the worst customer service ever!

Updated- on my last attempt to contact them i got a reply from the publisher who apologized and sent me all the missing issues! THank you very much, Jon!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful resource for bibliophiles!
I have been subscribing to this magazine for more than a year now, and I love it! It is a great resource for people who love to read, and covers all genres of fiction and non-fiction. In every issue, there is a section called Selections that gives us an overview of staff picks. The grading scale for each book reviewed is on a scale of 1-4 [four being the best].There is also a page that makes note of new and upcoming releases that are of interest, and also recent paperback releases of previous hardbacks. If you are a member of a bookclub, or plan to start or join one, there is a regular feature submitted by readers who belong to bookclubs and this is useful as it provides useful tips on how to go about enlivening book club meetings, ideas on how to choose books, and the general functioning of bookclubs. There is also a regular feature submitted by readers titled "Have you read?" which I like to peruse as it provides glimpses into other people's reading interests with ideas to spice up my own reading. There is also a section that provides expert recommendations on a particular topic,e.g. Learning Guitar [May/June 07 issue].Every issue has a special feature on a particular author and his body of works. The bulk of the magazine is taken up by reviews of new books in the market, with a summary of various reviews for each book featured, and a synopsis of the book itself. For an avid reader like me, I find a lot of useful ideas in this mag, and I never fail to find a couple of titles in each issue that I put down on my Must-read list, and usually follow up on it. I keep the magazines in my collection as I love to go back and re-read the various sections, and often find myself picking out titles that I've missed before. This is truly a wonderful magazine for readers of books in various genres and sub-genres!
